CELE is committed to helping educators of EL students build active, engaged learners who are thriving members of their school community.
As part of our belief that a better learning experience for students begins with better learning for teachers, we offer teacher licensure and professional development opportunities to support teachers, special educators, and speech and language therapists who are working to meet the needs of English Learners in the classroom.
Attend Category Trainings: CELE delivers trainings in all four Professional Development Categories outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for Teachers of English Learners. Offered regularly throughout the year, these trainings cover the skills and knowledge teachers need to work with ELs in the classroom, and can be held at your site. Learn how to identify and work with English Learners with learning differences learning and disabilities: CELE hosts this two-day ASHA-approved institute that guides specialists in designing and implementing effective classroom strategies to support K – 12 English language learners with learning differences and learning disabilities.
Become a licensed ESL teacher: The Collaborative’s Teacher Licensure program joins with CELE to offer an affordable pathway to obtaining your Initial License or an additional license as a Teacher of ESL. Become licensed in as little as twelve to eighteen months, or take individual courses for graduate credit through the Collaborative’s partnership with Fitchburg State University. Join a Professional Learning Community (PLC): A core mission of CELE is to encourage collaboration among educators. Professional Learning Communities are highly interactive educator groups that meet free of charge throughout the school year to discuss common interests and concerns, share curricular and instructional strategies, organize cost-saving joint purchasing of materials, and organize shared professional development.
